Pet Surgery in Leesburg, VA: Offers Life-Long Rewards
When any pet needs surgery in Leesburg, we realize it can be a scary thing for an owner. However, at Leesburg Veterinary Hospital, we minimize surgical and anesthetic risks as much as possible. Additionally, we consider all of your pet’s options before committing to pet surgery. As the owner, you are always a part of the conversation and have an important role to play in deciding when surgery is the right option for your pet.
Surgery can offer life-changing benefits to your pet, especially if it involves treating a chronic issue that has reduced your pet's quality of life. While surgery is a big step, the long-term positive effects it can provide are hard to deny.
Anesthetic Safety and Monitoring
Your pet’s safety is our top concern at all times. To ensure they are healthy and stable enough to handle anesthesia, we require a pre-anesthetic exam and bloodwork. After they are cleared, we provide warm fluids through an IV catheter to help keep your pet hydrated and support blood pressure and kidney health. As for the anesthesia, we select the appropriate protocol tailored to your pet. Our surgical technicians then set up monitoring equipment to keep an eye on your pet’s vitals including:
- Blood pressure
- Respiratory rates
- CO2 and oxygen levels
- Heart rate and rhythm
- Body temperature
- Pulse oximetry
- And more
Trained technicians are with your pet from the beginning to the end of their post-op recovery.

Patient Discharge and Recovery
Throughout pet surgery, our staff will be in contact with you to keep you updated on your pet’s progress. Once they are ready to go home, we’ll meet with you to discuss at home care instructions. Typically, it is important to give your pet a quiet place to rest and keep them from any excessive physical activity. Additionally, it is crucial to watch the incision to ensure there is no swelling, bleeding, or discharge. We will provide you with more specific instructions tailored to your pet and their condition at their release. Pain medication is also sent home to help keep your pet comfortable throughout recovery.

Best vet in Loudoun! The staff here are just outstanding! Every doctor here is super knowledgeable and caring toward your pet. I was invited in the back on one of my visits and they keep the hospital immaculate. I would never go anywhere else!
My animals have been going to see Dr. Melburger for many years. The staff is also amazing. You can tell that they truly love animals as well and it’s not just a job for them. I would recommend this office to anyone.
I cannot say enough kind words about this place. Leesburg Veterinarian has a lifetime client here. Thank you again!
The entire team at LVH works hard to provide excellent care to my pets. Dr. Strickland and his team have been there for my pets for 20 years; from adoption to end of life. I highly recommend them.
I absolutely love Leesburg Veterinary Hospital. It is more than worth it for me to drive the 30 minutes to get there. Thank you guys soooo very much. You are phenomenal!
We just had our first happy visit and it was the most wonderful experience. The staff made us feel so welcome and just let us sit on floor and wander around. They truly care about their patients and about making them feel comfortable. I have recommend them to all of my friends for their animals and they are all as equally impressed as I am.
Visited Leesburg veterinary hospital when I wanted a second opinion and access to better technology. I am grateful for the peace of mind and although it is a bit of a drive I think I will be returning for regular care. Can't say thanks enough!
