A Peaceful End with Pet Euthanasia

There’s never an easy way to say goodbye to our beloved companions. While many of them will pass peacefully on their own, others may suffer from illness or painful conditions for long periods before they go. In certain situations, pet euthanasia can offer your pet the relief from suffering that they deserve. At Leesburg Veterinary Hospital, we can offer your pet a comfortable, peaceful procedure.

Deciding if Euthanasia is the Right Choice

Every situation is different. When your pet nears the end, it is important to consider your pet’s whole quality of life before making your decision. Our team will be happy to talk to you about your pet’s options and about the level of discomfort from their condition. We will evaluate their quality of life and determine whether or not pet euthanasia is the right choice. Once we fully evaluate the situation, we will have an in-depth discussion with you and leave the final decision up to you and your family.

What to Expect with the Procedure

When you are ready, you can make an appointment to bring your pet to us for their final visit. We will give you and your family as much time together as you need before we administer the euthanasia. We first give your pet a light sedative to keep them calm and relaxed. Once you give us the okay, we will administer the euthanasia. You are welcome to remain for the procedure or step out—whichever is more comfortable.

Keep in mind if you do choose to stay, the euthanasia works very quickly. Your pet will not feel any pain, but there could be some slight twitching or spasms of the muscles even after they have gone on. This is simply a natural reaction of the body and should not cause any alarm. We will give you a few final moments in which to say your final goodbyes. Additionally, if you would like, we can talk to you about aftercare services such as cremation or burial should you need any advice.

Losing a pet can be a very difficult process and we’re here to help in any way we can. Please contact us today for more information about our end of life pet care.

Best vet in Loudoun! The staff here are just outstanding! Every doctor here is super knowledgeable and caring toward your pet. I was invited in the back on one of my visits and they keep the hospital immaculate. I would never go anywhere else!

My animals have been going to see Dr. Melburger for many years. The staff is also amazing. You can tell that they truly love animals as well and it’s not just a job for them. I would recommend this office to anyone.

I cannot say enough kind words about this place. Leesburg Veterinarian has a lifetime client here. Thank you again!

The entire team at LVH works hard to provide excellent care to my pets. Dr. Strickland and his team have been there for my pets for 20 years; from adoption to end of life. I highly recommend them.

I absolutely love Leesburg Veterinary Hospital. It is more than worth it for me to drive the 30 minutes to get there. Thank you guys soooo very much. You are phenomenal!

We just had our first happy visit and it was the most wonderful experience. The staff made us feel so welcome and just let us sit on floor and wander around. They truly care about their patients and about making them feel comfortable. I have recommend them to all of my friends for their animals and they are all as equally impressed as I am.

Visited Leesburg veterinary hospital when I wanted a second opinion and access to better technology. I am grateful for the peace of mind and although it is a bit of a drive I think I will be returning for regular care. Can't say thanks enough!

The staff and doctors were awesome and treated us with the upmost respect. They treat your pets like family and have all the concerns to treat them in a safe and healthy manor. Dr. Henly was Awesome!!!

I have been taking all my animals to the Leesburg Vet Hospital for forever!! I absolutely recommend them to ANYONE looking for a new vet!
